Our InvenTeam has been working hard to prepare for the Mid-Grant Technical Review on February 20th. Throughout 250+ hours of hard work, we have been meeting with community members, building a prototype, developing a proof of concept for AI technology, planning financially, and filing a provisional patent. In case you did not know, the Lemelson MIT Program has given our school a grant to create a technological solution to combat road biking accidents. Our school has a close connection to the problem area of bike safety because of Mr. Fred Carey. Mr. Carey was a teacher, Dean of Students, parent, and proud Country Day alum who tragically lost his life in a road biking accident. He was struck by an impaired driver close to our campus. February 21st is the ten-year anniversary of Mr. Carey’s death. The InvenTeam hopes you can take a moment out of your day to remember the great life of this beloved member of our community.
The Mid-Grant Technical Review is a formal presentation of our work thus far. A large part of our preparation has involved speaking with various community members, including Mr. Alex Johnson who helped us file our provisional patent. Our technical team has also been working hard to build a functional prototype to be showcased at the Mid-Grant Technical Review. This will be the first time our prototype is shown publicly, which we can safely do now that we are patent pending. If you happen to miss the Mid-Grant Technical Review, there will be a video recording.
Lastly, the InvenTeam is looking for donations to help fund our trip to MIT in June. We will be traveling in Boston and Cambridge for 5 days. The trip is to attend EurekaFest on MIT’s campus, but we also plan to do college and company tours. It is very expensive to fly to Boston alone, but when lodging, food, and activities are factored in, it gets even more expensive. Please consider donating or spreading the word.
