From the creators of Glee and American Horror Story comes a horror-drama-comedy about college sororities starring Emma Roberts (American Horror Story, We’re the Millers, Nancy Drew), Jamie Lee Curtis (Freaky Friday, Halloween), Lea Michele (Glee), Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee, True Jackson, VP), Ariana Grande, and Nick Jonas. 20 years after an incident involving a sorority pledge and a bathtub, a killer dressed as the school’s mascot, the Red Devil, begins murdering members of the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority one by one. Therefore, the girls must work together to unmask the Red Devil—or die trying.
The first season of Scream Queens is composed of eleven episodes and numerous plot twists. In fact, there were so many plot twists that until the last episode Red Devil could have been anyone. When the Red Devil was finally revealed, it wasn’t too much of a surprise but the backstory was interesting. Many of Scream Queen‘s episodes seem to only exist to kill time. Scream Queens can be racist and homophobic. It also makes fun of bulimia and engages in fat-shaming. It is all-around offensive, but the ridiculousness can be somewhat entertaining.
FOX has ordered a second season of the show (allegedly Scream Queens: Summer Camp) featuring the survivors of the finale. However, looking at the current ratings, season 2 may be cancelled. The ratings are not completely unreasonable because the show is fairly slow. If you’re looking for a scary horror show, Scream Queens really isn’t for you. We recommend the show if you have time to kill, but there is no need to invest much of your time in it.
