With the holiday season rolling around, I’m sure everyone is going to be busy dusting off the menorah or stringing the Christmas lights shortly after Turkey Day. If you’re looking for a fun break from holiday festivities, come see the May Festival Youth Chorus’s performance of Home Alone! Elizabeth Pease ’17 and myself, Lily Hill ’17, are active in May Festival’s Youth Chorus and are excited to perform Home Alone. May Festival Youth Chorus practices from two to five every Sunday, but the hard work pays off. Sure these practices take away from prime homework time on Sundays, but they are a very fun way of procrastinating. Being in this chorus has helped me meet a lot of new people and I am very thankful for this experience.
Elizabeth adds that “The rehearsals are always productive and dedicated to finding the perfect sound. Our director, James Bagwell, is very talented, has a phenomenal ear, and flies from NY city to direct us every Sunday. He, in conjunction with Rosanne Wetzel, our coordinator, Dr. Kirkendal, our pianist, Mathew Swanson, our sub-director, and the students are extremely focused on creating a truly magical Christmas experience.”
On Saturday, November 28th the Youth Chorus will be teaming up with the Cincinnati Symphony Pops Orchestra to perform the soundtrack along with the movie. The Chorus will be projecting Home Alone, but replacing the movie soundtrack with the Chorus’s vocals paired with the Symphony. This is the first time the Chorus or Symphony have ever done something like this and we are very excited to perform on the 28th. Tickets are currently on sale at www.cincinnatisymphony.org and are running out quickly! The performance starts at 7:00pm and will be at Music Hall (1241 Elm St, Cincinnati, OH 45202). I am very excited for this performance and I hope to see some of the Country Day community there getting into the holiday spirit!
