You might have seen them in the hallways, or up at the mic during assemblies. They walk with purpose. They know your name. They are
the Student Council Cabinet.
This years Cabinet, which consists of seniors President Patrick Wildman, Vice President Katie Barton, Treasurer Matt Valido, Secretary Hanna Gottschalk, and Social Chairs Anand Mehta and Austin Harden, has high aspirations and a clear vision for the 2013-2014 school year. We want to make sure everyone has fun, and make everyone feel as if theyve made a difference as well. One of our biggest goals is to get everyone involved in the community, Barton informed me. So we will be implementing more fun-filled days and special activities to get everyone enthusiastic about being a part of Country Day. Among the exciting new things the Cabinet is bringing to the school year, Wildman stressed that the student body can expect some of the best music youll ever hear walking into assembly.
In addition to making our daily lives more enjoyable, Student Council tackles issues that affect the student body. One of our biggest issues is the ability to fundraise for student events such as the dances, Wildman explained. In addition, Barton pointed out that silent study areas are a common topic of discussion in student council meetings because the school has limited areas dedicated to silent work and studying. The dress code, which has been a source of distress for many upperclassmen who have experienced the joy of having the sweatshirt rule passed, has also been debated. Unfortunately its not going to be changed due to how it was treated inappropriately last year, Wildman clarified.
Tough issues like these may make being on Student Council more difficult, but they love their job. According to Wildman, the best part about being on Student Council is knowing that youre doing your best to serve your peers, your friends and your fellow students. And, Barton added, getting to know a lot of the other students and getting to hear their opinions which help make CCDS a better place. For those who wish to run for student council or student body positions next year, they encourage them to definitely put yourself out there and run because you have nothing to lose. Its been an incredibly rewarding experience for us.
