The girls’ varsity soccer team is off to an incredible start. They won the first 12 games of the season. Their first lost came to arch rival Summit Country Day School, where they lost 1-0. Even with the loss, the soccer team has an amazing record of 11-1 with a 4-1 record in the Miami Valley Conference. The team is currently ranked second in both the city and the MVC, behind Summit. The Indians are led by senior captains Kelsey Zimmers and Ashley Streit. Zimmers is leading the MVC in offense with an astounding 18 goals, eight more goals than the nearest person. Defensively, the girls are led by freshman goalie, Olivia Robinson. In the first five games of the season, Olivia didn’t allow a single goal to be scored. The first goal that was scored against her came in CHCA game. Robinson is second in the league with 76 saves and only five goals allowed. For the games that have been played, “the highs have been playing together as a team and enjoying it. Going more than halfway through the season undefeated, the only really low of the season so far was when we lost 1-0 against Summit,” said Kelsey.
After this season, the team will be losing six seniors. With the remarkable talent of the freshmen, the team hopes to remain one of the top contenders not only in the MVC, but in the post season as well. The Indians look to do some damage in the upcoming postseason. Coach Theresa Hirschauer believes some of the success of this season came from the freshmen. “We have started four freshman—that is big. They have made a big impact,” stated Coach Hirschauer. With the season coming to an end, the Indians look to make a big impact in the state tournament. “My goal for the rest of the season is to advance as far as possible in the tournament and beat Summit,” said Streit.
The girls have four games left to play this season and they hope to maintain their record with only one loss. They would really appreciate a big crowd at the next four games.
