A few weeks ago I found myself watching the masterwork movie The Social Network. I couldnt help but get goose-bumps when Mark Zuckerberg and his buddies come up with the idea for Facebook and immediately began to write code on the dorm windows. I have always been a big believer that great ideas are worthless until they are put down on paper. In my opinion, the best place for students to write down their ideas are on white boards. Although there are plenty of white boards around the school, all of them are in classrooms and are constantly in use. Student Council wanted to encourage students to write down ideas, work out math problems, and do a little doodling during their free time. For this reason we have decided
to purchase and install student white boards throughout the school.
If you take a trip to the Google headquarters, you will notice that all the walls are white boards. Some of the greatest code to come out of Silicon Valley started on those boards. Although we cannot make every wall a white board, we wanted to replicate this environment of innovation. As long as students are responsible with the content they write on the boards (i.e. no profanities), we will be able to use them for years to come. We have two white boards that will be available for use after Winter Break.
The boards are made for the students. Let the white-boarding begin.
