With various popular artists from Lil Wayne to Chris Brown, 2 Chainz debut album was a great success. When the album finally dropped, I was more excited than Macklemore in a Thrift Shop. Three songs in particular jumped out at me as I popped in the CD and gave it a listen.
Yuck!
Starting the album out with a beat slower than a Marvin Gaye song, 2 Chainz builds up the suspense with an orchestra-esque feel, soon entering the scene with a bang. With a constant barrage of one liners that easily get stuck in your head, 2 Chainz explains how he managed to change his fortunes for the better. All of a sudden Weezy (Lil Wayne) answers the horn with a catchy, raw, and memorable refrain. Though his lyrics are about as deep as a kiddie pool, 2 Chainz and Weezy keep you alert the whole time. Nice start!
No Lie
This instant success, which was leaked before the album release, features one of the hottest rappers at the moment, Drake. With 2 Chainz delivering messages for life on a hard beat for verses one and three, Drakes ladykilling voice serves up bars hotter than the middle of July. In the refrain, Drake begins slowly, speeds it up and melts the fans. This song is so good, it can seem shorter than a Kim Kardashian marriage at times. No lie, this is arguably one of the best songs on the album.
Birthday Song
Everyone now knows what 2 Chainz wants for his birthday and where he should be buried. The lyrics are highly questionable and look like theyre stolen from a middle school essay. However, the song gradually improves, soon getting up to Soulja Boys level. Easily the best refrain on the CD comes on, a great sing-a-long. Just when you think it couldnt get any better Kanye West (Yeezy) arrives with one of the most outstanding verses of his careers. He portrays the life of many unhappy, married men and what they would like for their birthdays. Though many of the lines are as pointless as Snapchat, the images he paints are surreal. With the last verse of the song, Yeezy and 2 Chainz collaborate for an appropriate ending to an astoundingly great song.
As the album comes to an end, I have mixed emotions. The album hits the softer side of everyone, even a true thug like me. The sweet music is just grand but 2chainz hollering catchy one liners puts it over the top. The 2 Chainz CD by no means is new. It is an older one. So go out and by a copy and support Mr. 2 Chaaiiinnnzzzzzz!!!!!
