Its all
over: from the negative advertisement to the robotic political phone calls to the especially annoying door-to-door canvassing. We can finally move on with our lives. At 11:18 P.M., CNNs John King slowly moved his way across the Magic Wall, and we learned that this election, though not declared, would favor Barack Obama.
As it came down to the final hours, both campaigns were on edge as swing states votes were counted. All of the so called swing states, except for North Carolina, went to Obama.
The votes were tallied and the results showed Obama won the popular vote 50% in comparison to Romneys 48%. He also won the Electoral Collegewhere 303 votes went to Obama and 206 to Romney.
And just as the media predicted, it all came down to Ohio. Ohio helped put Obama over the 270 mark and, as always, Hamilton County played a major role in the Presidents victory.
In Hamilton County the results of the election were 51.8% for Obama to 46.9% Romney, thus, the states 18 electoral votes went to Obama. Though the results did not match that of the national polls like everyone thought they would, they were close.
So as states finished counting their votes, the Democrats looked forward to a second term and started planning.
CBS is reporting that Obama during his second term will strive to roll back Bush tax cuts for the upper class (Couples producing over $250,000 per year), to cut imports on foreign oil in half by 2020, and to have the government cutting $4 trillion from the deficit over a 10-plus-year period. Obama also plans to end subsidies to the oil industry, reduce carbon pollution, and take steps to make higher education affordable for the lower and middle class.
Whether or not you support President Obama and his policies, the election has ended and we now need to come together as Americans and focus on the betterment of our great nation.
