As Cassie and Caroline said last week, this year’s Student Council is making a conscious effort to cultivate a better sense of tradition, both new and old, at Country Day. Starting last week, we kicked off one of our larger endeavors: The House Cup.
What started as Student-Faculty Olympics has morphed into an inter-grade and faculty competition– what you could call the five houses. The games will be comprised of different competitions ranging from rock paper scissors to 3-on-3 basketball to (possibly) karaoke. We want to tap into all the skills that our beloved CCD community has to offer, whether it’s the surprisingly swift hands of sophomores in ping-pong or Mr. Black’s golden pipes. We want everyone to get a chance to participate in what we hope becomes an annual event.
If you’re at all confused by the scoring, here’s the breakdown:
1st place – 4 points awarded
2nd place – 3 points awarded
3rd place – 2 points awarded
4th place – 1 point awarded
Unfortunately for the 5-10th places, no points will be awarded, so do your best to place in the top four. If perchance you find yourself facing off against a fellow house-mate, and think “Will I need to throw the match in order to bring glory to my House?” – fear not. No one needs a repeat of the infamous South Korean, Chinese, and Indonesian women’s badminton matches from the lesser known, less prestigious London Olympic Games. We, unlike the Britons, would like to keep the integrity of our games intact, sans bribery, blood-doping, and officiating scandals. We will award points as the athletes place, regardless of grade. The House with the most points at the end of the year will be the winner!
As always, if you have any suggestions for events you feel are absolutely essential to the success of the House Cup, please let me or any members of student council know. We are looking into some ways to allow you to show the pride you have for your House– more to follow on that soon. For now, keep training for the upcoming ping-pong tournament and look ahead to any future events. We encourage any and all to volunteer as tribute to help lead their House to victory. The CCD House cup promises to be more grueling than any Hunger Games and more strenuous than the Triwizard Tournament. Eternal glory awaits you.
