By Cassie Sachs ’13 and Caroline Blackburn ’13, Student Body Social Chairs
Welcome to the start of a new Country Day tradition: the Student Council Column. It is the job of the Student Council (President Michael Barton, Vice President Sally Portman, Secretary Holly Dayton, Treasurer Julia Murphy, and Social Chairs Caroline Blackburn and Cassie Sachs) to represent the student body as best we can. In order to keep students informed on what we are thinking and the decisions we are making on your behalf, we will write a Scroll column full of important updates and ideas.
To kick off this column we, Caroline and Cassie, wanted to talk about how important we think Country Day sporting events are to the school. By the time we
graduate we will have collectively completed 28 seasons of Country Day high school athletics. To say the least, CCDS sports have been a huge part of both of our lives. We know firsthand the total commitment and huge effort it takes to be a student athlete at our school, and are so proud of all of the kids who find the time to participate on any number of the schools teams. Whether someone is the quarterback
of the Varsity Football team, or the last sub for Girls Lacrosse, every athletes hard work and dedication should be honored and supported.
Its our goal this year to boost attendance at different sporting events across the school. We want to revamp the cheering sections at big-crowd-drawing sports events, like football and basketball, and make sure that all of the other teams, who are just as important and need to be treated with as
much attention, have a steady stream of fans. Caroline and I want to pose this challenge to all of you: show up to every sporting event you can to cheer your friends and classmates to victory. It doesnt matter how you decide to do it, just set a goal for yourself and follow through. Whether you hope to make it to two events a week, or one event for every team each season, show up and support your friends time and effort. Your attendance will make a huge difference to the athletes, so dust off your spirit shirts, support your teams, and as always GO INDIANS!!
