This Friday, April 12, Extreme Measures, an a cappella group from Northwestern University, will perform at Cincinnati Country Day twice: during the school day for students, and at 6:30 for the general public. The group is made up of 18 men and women, including Carly Cantor ’08, a student at Northwestern who is thrilled to be part of bringing Extreme Measures to CCDS.
“The diverse members of Extreme Measures represent majors spanning from Theatre to Economics to Psychology,” says the Extreme Measures website. “Our musical arrangements range from Top 40 to Rock to 90s Throwbacks. We take pride in producing our own fall and spring shows as well as performing at many NU events on campus such as Dance Marathon, various fraternity and sorority philanthropies, and Parents’ Weekend.” Cantor says that you’ll be able to hear songs “ranging from the current hits that you love to hear, to oldies that will make you laugh once you recognize what they are.” She also gave The Scroll a sneak peek: “We do a Destiny’s Child Medley that makes crowds go wild!”
As Extreme Measures is very popular in the Chicago area and is very in demand, many might wonder how CCDS was able to secure such a fantastic group to perform
for us. Says Cantor, “As a group we enjoy traveling together because we not only get to perform but we also get to spend a lot of bonding time together. Also, I obviously played a big part in encouraging us to go because I could not be more excited to share this group that means so much to me to CCD. However, everyone has been so excited for this trip!
A cappella style singing is something relevant to many CCDS students lives: be it listening to Pentatonix, the winners of this season of The Sing Off, watching Glee, seeing the winter musical, or pondering the short-lived Barbershop Quartet Club headed by Will Bernish ‘13. Cantor is no stranger to the world of a cappella and how magical it can be. “Sometimes I stop singing while we are rehearsing and just marvel at how incredible it is that we are re-creating a real song with just our voices,” she said. Cantor also hopes that students will have plenty to take away from this concert: “I hope if anyone is interested in A Cappella they can learn more about it and perhaps we can get others interested in it!”
Tickets are $5 at the door and the show starts at 6:30. Copies of their CD Extremities and fan T-shirts will also be available. CCDS and Extreme Measures hope to see you there!
