“Eye-catching” best describes this formal dress season. In terms of color, the pop shades are back. The golds, reds, and greens seen at New York Fashion Week are making themselves highly wearable and perfect for homecoming dress styles. Even if you’re a person with little ability to pull off a loud red dress, you can still find yourself compatible with a dual-toned dress in a lighter warm color.
If this season’s flamboyant color choices cause you to pale, try a little black dress. Classy, elegant, and always in-style, there’s no way to go wrong. However, beware of looking like a mourning widow and consider adding a pop of color through your accessory choices. Likewise, since the dress is neutral, you have the freedom to go crazy and pick an avant-garde shoe. The result is an evenly contrasted look that is stylish without being intimidating or running the risk of overpowering you.
If your goal is to stand out, try incorporating another trend spotted at New York Fashion Week, shimmering fabrics! Silver and gold are putting themselves into a spotlight that catches the sparkle and keeps dresses gorgeously shapely. There aren’t many designs that don’t work well with glittering fabrics, which gives girls the opportunity to choose a dress that suits them best and has intense light-catching abilities.
This homecoming season is all about personality. Choose a dress that shows who you are and makes you feel special. The options are endless and the color wheel won’t stop spinning until you want it to. As Coco Chanel once said, “look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress.”
