With wins versus every single team in the MVC plus big wins versus Division 1 schools Colerain and Turpin, it was no surprise that the CCDS Boys Golf Team handily won the MVC Championship by 16 strokes. When asked about the championship, team head coach, Math Department Chair, and MVC Coach of the Year Greg Faulhaber responded, Winning the MVC was huge it because has been years since we have won the championship.
At MVCs the team performed incredibly over two days with Ishan Ghildyal 14 shooting 165, Michael Barton 13 shooting 168, Kyle Pruis 12, 172, Patrick Wildman 14, 180, Sam Hall 13, 180, and Luke Hall 13, 182.
From the last season to this, many changes have been made due to the graduation of key seniors and the addition of new players. Rather than dwelling on the loss of graduated senior Andrew McIlhenny 12, the team has relied on new players to take charge. Faulhaber commented on the new players asked to step up this year saying, Michael Barton, recently, and really all of them. The entire
team does great and every player has contributed at some point.
Junior Michael Barton and Sophomore Patrick Wildman both began their Country Day golf careers this year and have already have helped out the team tremendously. Team captain Kyle Pruis mentioned, This year, Michael Barton and Patrick Wildman were surprising additions to the golf team. . . They have really shown great improvement in their game and are always looking to improve.
Throughout the current season there have been many personal accomplishments accompanying the team victories. Ishan Ghildyal, Sam Hall, Michael Barton, and Kyle Pruis all medaled over the course of the season. Ghildyal and Barton both earned first team MVC honors while Kyle Pruis was selected second team MVC. Junior Sam Hall noted, As a team, winning the MVC Championship for the first time in who knows how long, showed us that accomplishing our end goal, repeating a trip to states, was possible.
The morale boost provided by the MVC championship should help the team build momentum as they try to accomplish their goal of qualifying for and excelling at states again this year.
