Senior Jamie Huelskamp is known for her perfectly put together outfits, but how does she decide what to wear each day and when? Whether her style is influenced by the weather, how much time she has, or the occasion, her ensembles always draw positive reviews. So The Scroll decided to an insiders look at a week of fashion with Jamie.
Huelskamp chose her first outfit outfit because of the weather. It was chilly outside so I wanted to wear boots and my new scarf, Huelskamp said. Shesaid the temperature definitely affects her choices when deciding what to wear and she likes to layer when it gets colder and wear scarves.
Huelskamps accessories are not at all afterthoughts when shes deciding on her outfit; often its the accessory that influences the rest of what she wears. On October 21 Jamie based [her] entire outfit off of the pink scarf. On the same day she said she likes to keep her accessories similar colors. “My theme for today was gold and black. I chose gold bangles with gold and black earrings.
Since accessories influence Huelskamps outfit so much she prefers statement jewelry over a simple gold chain. I really love statement jewelry, so sometimes I will take the colors from that and work my outfit around it. I also like to style my outfit around a scarf.
Often the hardest part of staying stylish for many students throughout the week is having the time to put together an outfit. Jamie finds time throughout the day before to decide on her outfit for the next day. Sometimes I daydream about my outfit for the next day in class and then when I get home I will put it together. But If Im rushed I just choose something simple and chic in the morning, she said. For a casual but cute look that requires minimal effort Jamie recommends skinny jeans with a baggy shirt because I like the juxtaposition of the two pieces.
To stay stylish and sane throughout the week Huelskamp suggested sticking with basics but then add different accessories, like a scarf in a sweater look is really easy and you dont have to think about it.”
“Also I think different pattern button downs can be really cute with
just jeans and they dont require much thought,” she added. “Just keep it simple because that can look really good sometimes.”
