Need some extra cash? The CCDS Business Exchange (link) is a medium developed by the Parents’ Association through which members of the CCDS community can advertise services and sell items.
The idea behind the Exchange is practical: provide students, faculty, parents, etc. with a online marketplace where they can engage in business with other members of the greater school community. The Business Exchange has two parts: the Business Directory and the Bulletin Board.
The website appears fully developed and well-designed, though it is underutilized. For example, since August, there have been only nine posts on the Bulletin Board. It is ready for use, but the CCDS community seems relatively unengaged.
Mr. Jon Hall, President of the Parents’ Association and father of Sam Hall,’13, and Jessica Hall, ’14, said “[The PA] is helping make more and more people aware of [the Business Exchange]. More participation will help it become the kind of helpful and active resource we are hoping it can be.”
There are many listings in the online Directory. Business types include home repair, restaurants, attorneys, doctors, dentists, research companies, and retailers. The Directory is a resource for parents who wish to advertise virtually any form of business service. The price of a listing in the Directory is $150 per year.
The second initiative is the Bulletin Board, which is geared toward students. The Bulletin Board enables students to offer their services, such as babysitting, lawn care, house sitting, and other job capabilities, to parents and alumni. It is also designed to be used to sell and buy tickets, and seek internships and volunteer opportunities.
