Since the end of COVID-19, an epidemic of children unable to read and grow in education has rapidly increased and continues to do so. Tests show that 40% of the nation cannot fully read at a normal level, and individuals from lower-class families show that 70% of their children cannot read at a basic level. So, how does the generation with the most advanced education have the lowest literacy rate?
COVID-19 has made life for many people extremely hard, and the use of technology was manifest. Many of these individuals were encouraged to use their devices and grew dependent to keep them entertained. Hobbies have been ripped apart and replaced with things such as social media and video games to keep society engaged.
The decline in reading plays into the effect of these scores, as well. Individuals from previous generations have stopped reading, and this has slowly affected the new generations that have been following in their footsteps. Too many of these children have a lack of motivation from their parents or a role model to get them to read.
In conclusion, many of these children have been influenced by the world around them. Living in the current world today has ruined the experience for other generations by having too many people rely on social media which has been affecting the growth curve for younger generations. Many of these individuals have a true role model to help guide them toward a path of reading and finding other hobbies. Without any motivation or any good influence, they are struggling in silence.
