About the book: Anatomy is the first book in the Anatomy Duology and was published in January of 2022. The book follows a noblewoman named Hazel Sinnet in Edinburgh, England, in the year 1817. Hazel wants to be a surgeon, but society makes it almost impossible for a woman to make a career in that area. When she runs into a resurrection man called Jack Currer, he offers to provide her with bodies so she can study anatomy. But there are strange things happening in the city, and Hazel, with Jack’s assistance, works to uncover the mysteries buried in Edinburgh society. It is a gothic tale of a willful female surgeon, a man who sells bodies for a living, and the buried secrets they must discover, full of mystery and romance.
My review: 4/5 stars
This book was easily one of my favorites so far this year, but there were some really gory parts that I had to skim past. The romance was so cute, and I absolutely loved their relationship. Hazel is a strong, determined woman, and she was so fun to read about. It was the perfect length, and I read it in one day because I just couldn’t put it down. It was full of twists and turns, and villains you can’t quite hate. The ending was such a twist and made me immediately pick up the second book (Immortality: A Love Story) and start reading. I loved how accurately the city was described according to the time period it was set in, and it honestly made me forget I was just reading a book. I would definitely recommend this to any fans of Stalking Jack the Ripper, A Lady’s Guide To Petticoats and Piracy, or Once Upon A Broken Heart (all excellent books as well).
