Fire

Austin Vaughan, Contributor '22

The primordial- the first and the last.

The chaotic- raging without direction.

The cacophonous- a scream silencing all.

If nothing else, fire is a scream.

Loud or quiet, it cries out for more.

Long or short, it reaches all around it.

Bright or dim, it lights the way for pain.

Fire is pain.

It grows and spreads.

It twists and breaks.

It defines you and I.

I am fire, you are water.

Two sides, same coin.

One falls, the other follows.

No start, no end.

Fire’s end is a rebirth.

The embers find new ground.

The ground is set alight.

The light begins the fire.
