We The Creators: Networking Event for Creators

Aadhya Ramineni ’19,  Arts and Entertainment Editor

On March 3rd, Emily Ram ’19 and I attended We the Creators, a social event for photographers, models and videographers of all skill levels. We both didn’t know what to expect. Although the venue, Felsenhaus, is situated in a sketchy area, inside it was filled with wonderful people who were united by their love for creating art.

You may be wondering what exactly “networking” means: It’s “interacting with other people to exchange information and develop contacts, especially to further one’s career.” This is very important for anyone interested in media and the arts because good connections lead to great opportunities. Apart from this it was fun to meet people with similar interests and who take art seriously.

Admission was $25 dollars, but it was well worth it. They had free hair and makeup provided by @salonbeck for models or anyone who wanted it. There were seven settings to shoot in, but the building itself was full of interesting corners and graffitied rooms to explore. Not only was there great natural light from the setting sun, but there were also beautiful light installations, which when photographed correctly, produced a stunning glowing effect. Having to change my camera settings for the different light at each exhibit was a great learning experience. I also met many local photographers and found out firsthand what it’s like to work with professional models.

We The Creators has given me insight into what being a professional photographer entails, and if it’s something I’m interested in pursuing as a career. Overall, the event was a great opportunity. If you’re interested in photography, videography, modelling or even creating any form of art, you should attend the next event.
