The Diversity Committee started in September of 2015 and is chaired by Mrs. Andrea Rogers, Middle School Culture Studies teacher. Although the committee is still in its infancy with a group of nine teachers, it plans to expand by allowing students and parents to get involved. The committee is a school wide group of nine teachers: 2nd grade teacher Tresonne Peters, Third Grade teacher Rick Schoeny, ECH teacher Jessica Beaudoin, 7th grade Culture Studies teacher Brittany Patterson, Middle School French teacher Rachel Corwin, Upper School history teacher Yven Destin, Upper School Spanish teacher Angela Suarez, and Upper School English teacher Chantal Thornberry.
Running “SEED,” (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity), for the past fifteen years, Mrs. Rogers brought the idea of a Diversity Committee to Hirsch, who said it would be a great addition to the Country Day community. The committee meets once a month in Mrs. Rogers’s room to talk about their goals of “a long range plan, a completed mission statement, and a full breadth of diversity at Country Day.”
The committee is planning on giving a presentation to the faculty this week, before bringing it to the student body.
When asked about her favorite part of bring in the Diversity Committee, Mrs. Rogers replied, “There is a lot of energy in this group around this topic and that is very exciting to be a part of.”
