The Cincinnati Country Day girls’ varsity basketball team is wrapping up the 2015-16 season and JV recently finished their season. The varsity record is 16-6, JV 4-11. Varsity wins include scoring 49-20 against Cincinnati Christian School in which and beat Fayetteville Perry 40-35 in the Sectional Tournament Finals, Izzy Hensley scoring 17 points and the girls winning the Division IV Sectional title.
Varsity JV highlights include a 33-26 win against CHCA in which Lily Farrell ‘19 led by 12 points, a 31-30 victory against Summit in which Paige Hettinger ’19 scored the winning shot in the last seconds, a 35-27 win against Miami Valley Christian Academy, and a 35-33 win against North College Hill.
Both teams consist of strong, dedicated ballers who train hard at practice and give it their all in games. During both, the atmosphere is high-energy, with the girls dribbling down the court and making hoops left and right. The team spirit and bonds are as strong as the girls’ basketball skills. Liz Keller ‘17, a junior, remarked, “It was a really good season. We really improved. It was fun.”
The teams have seen many freshmen join their ranks this season, adding to the impressive force. The awesome leadership of the captains has really made an impact on the team, and the first-rate coaching of Coach J. Snell, Coach Patterson, and Coach S. Snell have shaped the girls into even fiercer players. The girls’ basketball teams will miss seniors Dieckman-Meyer, Katie Jamison, and Tiara Atwater, who have brought their best game to the team for several years.
The girls’ varsity and JV basketball teams have performed spectacularly this season. Varsity will next play in the OHSAA District Tournament Finals at Tipp City against Fort Loramie on Saturday, 2/27.
