The Cincinnati Country Day gymnastics team is in the middle of a fabulous season. In their most recent meet on February 3rd against Seven Hills, the girls placed 1st with an outstanding score of 112. Impressive performances came from Mia Masterson, who placed 5th on floor, and Moya Ly, who scored a 7.4 on floor. The team also shined in several quad meets held at Country Day, earning 2nd and 3rd place. The girls give it their all on the floor, beam, bars, and vault, showing their immense talent in each. Clarissa Conner, a sophomore, commented, “The season has been going well. We’re starting to pick up new moves, and we’re working hard in practice. We’re going to start to taper soon so our scores will increase.” The team hopes to break 117 at districts.
This year, the team has seen many freshmen join its ranks, adding new skill to the already fierce team. There are also quite a few seniors that have graced the team with their presence for several years, including Addy Bell, Margaret Hodson, and Kendall Smith. The superb leadership of the captains and the extraordinary guidance of Coach Conner and Coach Peters have really shaped the team into a force to be reckoned with. Likewise, the girls’ bonds are as strong as their skills. Ly, a sophomore, remarks, “I really like how everybody on the team is so supportive of each other. And we all work really hard.”
The atmosphere at practice pulsates with energy, and often the girls joke around and have fun whilst carrying out complex routines. I attended a practice and it was absolutely exciting. The latest hits blared from the radio as the girls nailed round-offs, flips, and beam routines to the beat. They perform competitively, but have fun while doing so.
The Country Day gymnastics team will aim for another marvelous performance at their Senior Night quad meet on February 11th.
