In order to look at Country Day, you can’t just look at the here and now. You have to look at its history, and the growth behind that history. A good way to get a glimpse of that history is to look at one of the longest remaining teachers here at Country Day: Math Teacher Mr. Bob Plummer. Celebrating 42 years teaching, Mr. Plummer certainly has maintained a watchful eye over the campus. Seeing as this is his last year at Country Day and he has the ability to give an overarching view of the school, I interviewed him about his experience with the school.
To the question, ‘What have been the most prominent changes in the culture of Country day that you have seen over the years?’ Mr. Plummer answered that when he first came to the school, it was just starting to be co-ed. There were only three girls in the upper school when he came. Not only that, he simply stated that over the past 42 years the school has simply become a more civilized place to be. After that, he said that he thought the biggest difference was the creation of the new main building for the school.
When asked what he was most proud of about his career at Country Day, Plummer stated, “The students that I have taught that have gone out in the world. One of my favorite students is a CSO composer, and another is the head of the Ohio Democratic Party.” This warming statement shows just how much the students mean to the teachers here at Country Day, or at least to Mr. Plummer.
It’s nice to see that after so many years he is so proud of his students and so happy to see their success stories. This is most likely the reason he started teaching in the first place.
Over the years, he has seen Country Day grow and change into what it is today, and seen it on its best and worst days through some undeniably thick lenses.
