Imagine… an entire high school in one room. Music blaring in the background as Country Day students danced like crazy, sweat pouring from everyone’s faces. As students stepped onto the dance floor, worries of the outside world slipped away as everyone enjoyed the excitement of the night.
Face paint, Friday night football, and fantastic dance moves were just some of the highlights from Homecoming Weekend. Following the amazing 41-7 win over Summit for the Country Day Cup was Saturday night’s homecoming. The Back to the Future themed dance was held at Mariemont’s The Barn. In all of their 80’s glamour, the students, freshman to seniors, had a night of dancing and singing the night away.
As a freshman, I did not know what to expect from homecoming. Every ninth grader’s heart was pounding anxiously; “who’s going with who?” or “what are your plans for before Homecoming?” No one was focusing on what the actual dance would be like. I was pleasantly surprised from the outcome of my first high school dance. I was not anticipating everyone going all out and being as excited as they were.
There was not a single person standing alone, as everyone, including teachers, were pouring their hearts out on the dance floor. “I think it was a great dance,” says Emma Rust ’16, “everyone had a good time. All the seniors went and danced so everyone else had a good time too.” Corsages and boutonnieres filled the room, dancing to not only modern songs, but classic 80’s hits as well. You knew everyone was having a good time when freshman were sitting and dancing on the shoulders of the upperclassmen. Not to mention, Señora Suarez dancing like nobody was watching to Shakira.
The night closed out with the crowning of the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior kings and queens of Homecoming. The reigning royalty of the dance floor includes Jane Reiring and Tony Buechly (’19), Sam Schwartz and Liah Apatira (’18), Deidre Mohan and Bryce Flannigan (’17), and Emma Robitaille and Nathan Grant (’16). Anyone you ask would tell you how much fun they had at this year’s homecoming dance. As FallFest, a fantastic defeat over Summit, and an amazing dance concluded Homecoming Week, you could definitely say that it was a success.
