Homecoming? What is it? Is it a time defined by the fact that it is during the fall, or maybe it is the football games that define homecoming. In order to see what homecoming truly is you only need look at the name, homecoming. After a long summer break, students come back to school, they come back to the books and the lessons. They come back to homework and tests and and the stresses of school. And in all of that time, there isn’t really a time to appreciate the students and all the hard work that they do, teachers get teacher appreciation week, so what about students? Homecoming is a time to celebrate, a time to celebrate the triumphant return of students and in this, students get their appreciation week, full of crazy dress days, football games, and a dance. Because students, you are worth it.
Homecoming is a fun time, homecoming the dance is a fun time, and one must be prepared. Being prepared includes finding the right clothes (whether that be a dress or a dress shirt and slacks), the right date (if that’s your style), and for many, the right makeup.
So speaking of makeup, here is what I used to create the golden-eyed look above. Feel free to use products that you already own or to find cheaper alternatives to some of them!
Products Used:
Laura Geller Sparkle Tinted Under Makeup Primer, Nyx Dark Circle Corrector, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind, Bare Minerals Mineral Veil, Urban Decay Original Primer Potion, Lorac Unzipped Palette, Nyx Prismatic Eyeshadow in Liquid Gold, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner, Stila Smudge Stick Eyeliner in Gilded, Maybelline Dream Wonder Foundation, Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, Covergirl Lash Blast Length Mascara, Bare Minerals Blush, Too Faced Luminous Bronzer in Snow Bunny, Nyx Lip Pencil in Citrine, Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipcolor in Touch of Spice, and MAC Cinderella Lipglass in Glass Slipper.
I started out with my primer. Apply using a sponge (your fingers work just as well!), rub in gentle circular motions in conjunction with dabbing it in. Next I used my dark circle corrector to cover up my, well, dark circles. I rub this in but if you find that your under-eye area is really sensitive, just tap it in lightly with your ring finger. Then I applied another under eye concealer just for a little extra something. Apply in an upside down triangle under the eyes. You can also use this as regular concealer, though I skipped this step due to heaviness of the foundation that I was using. I then set all of my under eye concealer using a setting powder. Next, I primed my eyelids and then used whatever leftover setting powder was on my brush to set it. Starting with the shade “Undiscovered”, I applied it all over my eyelid and blended into my crease. Next I took the shade “Liquid Gold” and used this as my crease color. Starting at the outer corner, I then worked my way in using windshield wiper motions. The next shade I used was “Unattainable” and this went just into the outer corner of my eye. To blend I used small circular motions. I then cleaned up any fallout using a big fluffy brush. To highlight underneath the brow bone, I used the shade “Undercover” and then blended in downward strokes. I then made a dramatic cat eye using a black liquid liner. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes with this, you can always go back with a makeup remover wipe and clean it up. For my waterline I used a gold color. Moving onto the face, I applied my foundation, again using my sponge to apply in circular motions and dabbing. Back to the eyes, I applied my mascara on the upper and lower lashes. Next onto blush, sweep the blush right underneath the apple of the cheek, alternatively for a different look, smile and then apply directly to the apple of your cheek. I then applied highlighter above where I applied my blush. Onto lips, I first outlined my lips with a lip pencil in the color “Citrine” and then filled them in with a lipstick in the color “Touch of Spice.” To add some shine to the lips, I then applied my lipglass in “Glass Slipper.”
And that is how I got this golden homecoming look!
