Dr. Kathy Scheidler is the new school psychologist at Country Day. She explained it was our community that sparked her interest in working at the school. Her belief is that, “The Country Day community is committed to excellence in all areas.” She has worked in a variety of settings and most recently at Our Lady of Grace, which is Kindergarten through 8th grade. Dr. Scheidler decided to become a school psychologist because she became fascinated with the field of psychology and the brain. From elementary through high school, she was always trying to help solve people’s problems. DePauw University in Greencastle is where she completed her undergraduate work. She obtained her Doctoral Degree from the Psychology Program at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Scheidler wants students to know that despite her daunting title, she provides extra support and can “help students gain independent problem-solving skills for life.” She has two teenage children who are in high school, which helps her understand some of the key stressors that high school students constantly face. The approach that Dr. Scheidler takes is a collaborative-problem solving approach that is aimed at finding solutions. Jonathon Kozol’s Savage Inequities is a book that influences Dr. Scheidler to always be a person who the students can count on to be positive. Her favorite book from high school was Jane Eyre.
