Some people believe that prom is a rite of passage for seniors and juniors. Many people throughout the Upper School think that freshman and sophomores do not deserve to go to prom. There are many reasons why people have different opinions on this matter. Our school has a limited amount of students, not just in the upper class but also in the underclass. All the High School grades at Country Day have less than 100 students. If you think about it, if only the seniors and juniors attended prom, there would be very high ticket costs. There would also be a change in venue size; the amount would change from about 400 students possibly attending to 200. Just because the freshman are young and they have not been in High School as long does not mean that they should not be allowed to enjoy the same activities as the seniors and juniors. Freshman and sophomores are perfectly capable of paying for prom tickets, arriving on time, and wearing appropriate clothing. There is no logical reason for seniors and juniors wanting prom to themselves except for the age difference. However, age is not everything, and the underclassmen are respectful and are not trying to ruin prom for the upperclassmen. The freshman and sophomore classes just want the chance to enjoy prom while they can. A large amount of the underclassmen are attending prom this Saturday night from 8:00-11:00 p.m. at the American Sign Museum. I hope to see all of you there!
