Earlier this year during the high school swim season, Allie Wooden ‘15 won the state titles in the 100 free and 200 free. Over spring break, Wooden competed in the National Club Swimming Association Junior Nationals. She qualified to be a part of the 2015 NCSA All-American team in the 1500 freestyle. Wooden will be representing the United States in Ireland at the Irish Open Swimming Championships along with 25 other girls from across the nation. Although she only qualified for the 1500, she will be swimming six other events: the 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800 freestyle. Wooden commented on her rankings, saying, “I want to get top three in some events at the meet. Right now, in most events, I’m ranked in the top eight but I want to improve my placement and score points for the U.S.” It is an incredible feat to be ranked in the top eight in a world meet in a sport like swimming where tenths of a second can make you or break you. Wooden said, “I’m really looking forward to representing the U.S. This is my first international meet, and I’m excited to get experience competing against people in different countries. I think this will broaden my world of swimming and open up opportunities for me in the future.” If you see Wooden around the halls, stop and wish her luck, as she will compete in Dublin from April 26 to May 5.
