Thirty-nine members of the Classes of 2009 and 2010 achieved recognition from the Advanced Placement program for high scores on exams. Of the 1.7 million students worldwide who took Advanced Placement exams last May, 18 percent scored high enough to earn such recognition.
Twenty-three students, most of them members of the Class of 2009, were awarded the honor of AP Scholar with Distinction. According to the College Board, to win this award, students needed to have earned an average of 3.5 on all exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Members of the Class of 2009 awarded this distinction are Alex Angotti, Shrenuj Bansal, Frannie Bower, Reed Caron, Patrick Daly, Matthew Eichel, Casey Hopple, Bailey Kielarowski, Howard Kim, Molly McCartney, Amanda Meixner, Rene Peters, Anna-Alycia Tucker, Max Victor, Marianne Yacyshyn, and Sara Yacyshyn. It is particularly impressive that among the 23 students recognized, seven are members of Class of 2010. Current seniors that earned this award are Jordi Alonso, Kevin Baxter, Xanni Brown, Sebastian Koochaki, Thomas Langlois, Allison Lazarus, and Micaela Mullee.
Additionally, seven students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor award. To receive the honor, students had to score an average grade of 3.25 on all exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more. The recognized students are Nick Bender, ’10; Jayne Caron, ’10; Isaac Guttman, ’10; Marzieh Mirzamani, ’10; Fletcher Pease, ’10; Will Portman, ’10; and Brittani Smith, ’09.
Lastly, nine students have earned the distinction of AP Scholar by scoring 3 or higher on three or more exams. These students are Fabrizio Aguirre, ’10; Megan Bonini, ’10; Joey Fritz, ’10; Brad Hall, ’09; Meredith Hritz, ’10; Hannah Loudermilk, ’09; Lisa McElhinney, ’09; Tara Menkhaus, ’09; Samantha Nadler, ’09; Allison Rue, ’09; and Jessup Smith, ’10.
“We’re very proud of our AP scholars. These students have shown a deep and broad mastery of a number of subjects; they enrich our program with their enthusiasm and commitment to scholarship,” said Upper School Head Stephanie Luebbers.
Seniors who were recognized this year are likely to be recognized at a higher level next year after participating in this year’s round of AP exams.
