Clubs period is extra busy this year due to the addition of several new clubs. While classics such as Academic Team, Model United Nations, and Science Olympiad continue to draw large crowds every Monday after lunch, new organizations, such as Breast Cancer Awareness, NextGenVest, and 3D Modeling and 3D Printing Club, among others, have brought new interest and excitement to clubs period. I spoke with the club heads of Art Club and Anime Club, respectively, to learn about two new creative opportunities for extracurricular activity at Country Day. Seniors Danielle Mangat, Mackenzie Patterson, and Lindsey Jarrell are the co-leaders of Art Club. Art Club is, as Mangat puts it, for anyone interested in getting their “creative juices flowing,” regardless of previous art experience. The club strives to both further expose its members to art and encourage them to think outside the box. Mangat stresses that Art Club differs from typical art classes because it doesn’t focus on teaching its members how to “do” art. Instead, Art Club will pursue large projects to which everyone can contribute. They hope to work on a new project each month. For example, in December, the Art Club plans to build gingerbread houses. They are also considering working with graffiti, in appropriate locations. The Art Club can be followed on Instagram at CCDS_Photo. Nikki Rosiello ’17 heads the anime club. She describes it as a place where students interested in Japanese art, animation, and comics can meet and socialize. Club members talk about media they have watched or read, and also gather to watch Japanese animated movies or shows. The club’s primary goal is to attend an Anime Convention, where its members expose themselves to even more Japanese media and meet other fans with similar interests. Currently, you can find the Anime club projecting movies in the library on Wednesdays or Fridays during lunch.
