The Cincinnati Country Day Boys’ Varsity golf team is a young team this year. A couple of varsity team members from last year graduated and a two others moved away. Returning for this year’s team are seniors Leonard Behrens, Alexander Maier, and Taylor Maier. New to the team this year is Joe Lou ’16 who moved to Country Day from Albany, New York. Hunter Folan ’17 has also joined the team along with freshmen Jack Gardner, Thomas Mactaggart, and John Pettengill. The team is off to a slower start than they had hoped for with narrow losses on their first three matches, however, the team rallied and defeated Cincinnati Christian this past Thursday. Coach Faulhaber is optimistic as the team continues to improve each week and he hopes to compete for an MVC title and to qualify for the District and State tournaments.

The women’s golf team took home their first win of the season against Turpin High School last Wednesday with Kacie Bradfish ’15 medaling. Although the girls did not win the first couple of matches, there were very close scores. The closest match was against Summit, a loss by a slim five strokes! With sectionals only three weeks away, the ladies have put themselves in a good position heading into the state tournament.
Bradfish has medaled six times this season and Elizabeth Grace ’15 has had a great run as well scratching on the door of breaking a 50. Most of the team consists of juniors who have been playing since freshmen year. However, there are three new juniors as well as a freshman who joined the group as well. Grace and Bradfish have led the girls and set a great example to follow and strive for.
The team’s scores of the year have been as follows: three 222s, 220, 216, 208, and the best score of a 202. By clawing back only two or three strokes each, the ladies will be able to set personal bests and surpass their opponents who have only beaten them collectively by a few strokes. Maggie Bernish ’16 says that even through the losses and the frustration of the sport, “every day, [she] cannot wait to just get outside and hit a round of golf; it is that much fun.”
With a little determination and hard work, the team will have a bright future ahead of them; likewise, the team is hoping to help Bradfish make it to State.
